Block Rock Gravel Grids

BLOCK ROCK Gravel Stabilisation Grids

BLOCK ROCK is a versatile, low-profile gravel stabiliser, featuring a superior 30mm depth and designed to provide excellent aggregate coverage (30m² per tonne). Quick and easy to lay, BLOCK ROCK provides a durable, low maintenance solution for garden paths, driveways, patios and more. Thanks to its honeycomb structure and geotextile fabric layer, weed control is assured whilst rainwater is easily absorbed into underlying soil.

CREATE A STURDY, STABLE SURFACE

BLOCK ROCK is quick to lay and easily cuts with a suitable saw to fit awkwardly shaped areas, creating a stable and safe surface for your pathway or driveway.

PRO-QUALITY 30mm DEPTH

BLOCK ROCK’s light grey sheets come in a standard 30mm depth providing superior strength and suitable for domestic vehicle driveways.

STRONG HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE

The honeycomb structure (for gravel and pebbles) is made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and the geotextile base is made of Polypropylene (PP). The structure of the cells creates tightly compacted pockets that securely hold loose gravel, forming a durable, porous, water permeable surface. The average load class test value when full (according to EN ISO 844) is 400T/m².

REDUCED GRAVEL REQUIREMENT

With a depth of 30mm, BLOCK ROCK requires up to 50% less aggregate compared to a typical loose gravel surface. This allows one tonne of 10mm gravel to cover approximately 35m², offering significant cost savings in materials, time, and labour.

DURABLE AND WET WEATHER FRIENDLY

BLOCK ROCK includes a high-quality geotextile membrane which prevents weed growth and allows rainwater to easily absorb into underlying soil. The membrane also provides an additional layer which ensures the gravel in the honeycomb structure stays in place and doesn’t migrate beneath the grid which could cause grid lifting. BLOCK ROCK is resistant to extreme weather and temperature.

INSTALLATION GUIDE – NEW SURFACE

  1. Preparation: Dig and level the area for the sub-base, leaving an extra 10mm for a layer of sharp sand or gravel, 30 mm for the grid depth, and 10-15 mm for the gravel topping.

  2. Bedding Layer: Spread a 5-10mm layer of sharp sand over the sub-base and compact it to eliminate minor undulations. This also protects the underside of the grid.

  3. Grid Installation: Begin installing BLOCK ROCK panels from one corner, ensuring the geotextile membrane side faces downward. Trim the panels as necessary using a suitable saw. Larger format panels (available in pallet quantities) have interlocking connectors for joining BLOCK ROCK sections together.

  4. Filling: Fill the grid with your chosen aggregate, with a diameter size of 4-12mm. If laying for a driveway, we recommend filling with harder aggregates such as granite.

  5. Completion: Cover the top of BLOCK ROCK with 10-15mm of gravel, which will make the grid virtually invisible.

INSTALLATION GUIDE – EXISTING SURFACE

To install BLOCK ROCK over an existing gravel, tarmac, or concrete surface:

  1. Clear the Area: Remove any weeds or loose material.

  2. Surface Repair: Repair any dips or potholes using a suitable sub-base material, then compact the surface with a roller. For tarmac or concrete, consider drilling drainage holes for water to soakaway.

  3. Bedding Layer: Follow the same steps as for new surfaces.

  4. Grid Installation & Filling: As with new surfaces, install the BLOCK ROCK panels, fill with aggregate, and cover with a 10-15mm gravel layer.

EDGING PROFILES

If edging is required along garden pathways or driveways, we recommend GEOREEF flexible profiles which provide an excellent alternative to heavier and less aesthetically pleasing hard edges.
